Our Herbal Dry Shampoo Benefits
You may be wondering if you will really receive any benefits from all the herbs in our dry shampoo. The skin is the body’s first defense and barrier, so can a powder really absorb? The answer is “Yes”, skin can absorb powdered substances. The amount absorbed changes depending on the condition of the skin, the length of exposure and the type of powder. In addition, the scalp has a greater absorption capability than the rest of your skin due to the vast number of hair follicles.
The boswellia in our dry shampoo has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It is believed that Boswellia prevents your skin from producing inflammatory compounds. One of these compounds, leukotriene B4, is linked to hair loss, so blocking it from being produced should help prevent hair loss. Boswellia has been shown to help seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, eczema, psoriasis and itchy scalp. It also increases scalp circulation, which promotes hair growth.
Rosemary fights alopecia and baldness by promoting hair regrowth. In a clinical trial, it was shown to do as well as minoxidil for fuller, thicker hair. It also increases scalp circulation for healthier, steadily growing hair. Rosemary has antioxidants and nutrients that fight free radicals and decrease inflammation. This means a less itchy scalp with strong, healthy hair strands. It has antimicrobial properties to fight dandruff and scalp fungal infections.
Lavender is an anti-inflammatory and is full of antioxidants. The “calming” quality of lavender extends to the scalp where it decreases inflammation and itchiness. The antioxidants found in Lavender promote the production of collagen as well as healing scalp damage. The flavanoids in lavender were shown to promote hair growth since they shorten the resting stage of hair follicles. Lavender has antibacterial and antiviral properties, protecting your scalp from dandruff and infection.
Stinging Nettle is a nightmare to find in your garden, but you’ll want it on your scalp. It is well known for controlling dandruff. It prevents hair loss by blocking DHT, which is linked to alopecia. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. Nettle’s vitamins, silica, protein, iron, calcium and magnesium will strengthen your hair and increase scalp health.
Chamomile has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. It is full of vitamins and antioxidants. It improves blood circulation to the scalp and promotes collagen production, combats dandruff and soothes scalp irritation. I’ve addressed these properties in more detail up above, so I’m keeping it short here.
We have included oat flour and arrowroot powder in our formula in addition to the corn starch. These ingredients naturally absorb oil, but they also soothe scalp irritation and provide moisture balance. Arrowroot is known to provide volume and help detangle. They also are packed with vitamins and minerals.
Our dry shampoo will balance your sebum production and help prevent clogged pores. This helps prevent dandruff and hair fall as well as keeping your hair from being oily.
Aerosol dry shampoos can wind up in your lungs so we have a brush applicator to prevent this. We love the scent of our herbal dry shampoo though, and I have to stop myself from taking big whiffs of it!
